Anne’s View 2018-11

Dali Day III:

The day after the museum, we drove towards the Mediterranean which is due east of Figures, to Portlligat, where Dali and Gala had their house.

It is right on the water in a little fishing village. Dali started by buying a fisherman’s cottage which meant one room. He kept buying, fixing up, connecting, adding, etc. until they ended up with this big house. As a result the house is a little higgledy piggledy, going over and around the rocks on the coast, but served their needs.

It was their one and only house in Spain other than the castle. Again what can be said about it other than experiencing it!! It is very Dali!! Although Gala did put her mark on parts of it.

The drive out to the village is on little winding roads along the coast and can take time even though it is not that far from Figueres!! We just loved it. It is definitely their house with things they love around them. They certainly do not worry about things matching. They just enjoy their space!! It reminded me of  last year seeing Monet’s house. Artists live with what they like or what inspires them!!
