Barn find Lamborghini in Sarlat!

A Lamborghini tractor that is!  Of course, all you car buffs knew Lamborghini got his start making tractors before making one of the world’s most recognizable supercars.  Now that I have your attention, let me say a few words about Sarlat-La-Caneda where we’re spending a couple of weeks.  Sarlat is one of those villages that I have mixed feelings about.  It’s one of the most popular destinations in the Dordogne Valley and the area know as the Périgord and makes a great base to explore the greater region, providing all the necessary amenities.  It’s old town center with it’s old buildings, narrow streets, alleys and squares is a wonderful place to explore.  That said, it’s one of those places I’ve mentioned before that has ’embraced’ tourism.  It’s much more ‘polished’ and the alternating shops and cafes are geared to the tourist market.  You can see it in the number of tour groups and tourists coming through and especially during the Saturday Market.  The whole town is given over to the market with every street and alley in the old town packed with vendors and crowds.  We do love the atmosphere, though, and the sights to be found in the surrounding area.  More on those later.  I should mention that the ‘Liberty’ Square here has one of the more explicit WWII Memorials I’ve found.  The last statement ‘loosely’ translates to:  “Refugees from Sarlat who were transported to Nazi camps and there died atrociously.”  Very sobering!  Finally, to get back to the tractor.  It sits in a barn on an abandoned property next to where we’re staying.  It has a mower deck on back and is obviously used to cut the grass in the area.  My first Lambo tractor though.  How good is that.  Until the next post.
