Yesterday was gorgeous and we spent the afternoon in Bayeux. To me it is the heart of the Normandy Beach landings area of D-Day. Bayeux is a beautiful medieval town whose attractions include a major cathedral, a D-Day museum, the British Cemetery from WWII and is home to the Bayeux Tapestry. A visit to the tapestry is always a highlight for me on any trip to this area. I just love it. Need I say more. Of course, I do!! First, it is not really a tapestry. It is an embroidery, using wool threads on a linen background– 70 meters long by 1/2 meter high.

The above link will tell you all about it. But the short version is that it tells the story of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when William the Conqueror takes England back from the usurper, Harold. So my day was made by visiting MY tapestry. Near the museum is a shop where you can buy patterns to make your own example of scenes from the tapestry. Also, near there is another shop dedicated to D-Day—-with everything in it made with poppies on it. I had to get myself a pair of socks. Some of you know that I like “different” socks. This started in high school when wearing a uniform for 4 years—socks made the difference!?
After that we went out for a few groceries—not a good idea on Friday afternoon in France!! Seemed like everyone was buying party items for the weekend and it was crowded and busy. But we did manage and made it back to our apartment to make dinner. Well, that turned into a real experience in itself??? We were having 100% pure pork sausages with veggies. We have all been told that sausages are just the “garbage meat” from the animal??!! Well, let me tell you, these were and you knew it because the “meat” was NOT ground up as we expect it to be. They were actually very tasty—as all sausages are– if you could get past the texture. Robert first knew something was strange because they all started exploding as the first one did in my picture.
I am here this AM to tell you that we both survived the experience, however, there are two left for tonight. We are not sure we can eat them?? We will see!!!

Love those socks!
Rad sox!
Gosh, your description of the sausage made me lose my appetite!
Yes, I agree!!
But Chaussette, the family dog, benefitted from it!! She ate the two remaining sausages and loved it!!
We figured we had to try it the first night just for the experience??
