Anne’s View 2018-1

Leaving Anakiwa was exciting for me!! It was to be the first trip down SH1 through Kaikoura to Christchurch since the big earthquake 2 years ago. What an amazing drive it was!! Could not believe what I was seeing: the new coast line, massive amount of earth that had to be moved to even start on the road and train tracks. Now it all looks like it was always there—a beautiful ride meandering along the Pacific!! Beautiful new train tracks, walking and cycling paths going in and the best part was seeing the seals. I could not believe the numbers of them. It was as if they just moved up the road a bit and set up house keeping again.

After spending the night in Christchurch, we left for the airport the next morning. Everything was perfect timing, turning in the rental car and shuttling to the airport, checking bags and getting through immigration and security. I was told that my pillow case was the best they had ever seen. I always travel with a pillow and I made a new pillow case for it?? Loud!! Or should I say bright??

The flight to Singapore was fine and Singapore was Singapore—hot and humid as always. The only disappointment was that our favorite little street vendor was not there because of a refurbishment —fingers crossed that it will be up and running again on the way home.

Munich was cold and rainy but after a few hours the weather cleared and beautiful blue skies emerged with nice warm temperatures 26-28*C. We drove straight to Wiblingen to see their famous monastery –especially the library—Robert posted pics of this. Next it was Maulbronn Monastery an UNESCO world heritage site and magnificent.

Off to France then, to the Alsace, the part that the Germans still say is theirs?? Lovely here and with beautiful vineyards just beginning the harvest. Our apartment came with a gold medal bottle of an Alsace Pinot Gris. Very pleasing to the taste buds. Yesterday was Haut Konigsbourg, unbelievable. Today it is driving around this area and stopping in at the little wine villages in the area. We are in Beblenheim!!

Well enough of this. This is getting too long, hopefully now that I am caught up, the next posts will be short and sweet!! Anne

No, he did not set anything to record—hopefully we can find it again— after we get home.

How are the projects coming or does Spring have you doing other things??
