Anne’s View 2

I said I would start the next post in France—well, that part is true, but this one is about England instead of starting in France??

After looking at my pictures (and I have not taken many) from this trip I decided to give “Dippy” Cottage its due! Dippy Cottage is home to 13 mice—nice pretend ones that is—hidden all over the apartment. We found 4 just by chance. The owner offers a prize to anyone who can find all 13—no one has accomplished this task?? Makes you wonder??

I, also, thought you should see one wall in the kitchen—painted black with a  “chalk” marker near to write or draw with. Quite clever really—I could see one of these in every home. HUMMM, where will I put mine??

Another feature attraction is the light fixture in the living room/lounge. I thought that it should have 8 legs instead of the 6, then it would look like a big spider visiting??

Our trip from England to France was a journey indeed. It took 13 hours from start to finish. We first drove from Hastings to Dover to turn the car in and take a bus onto the ferry to Calais. They checked our passports at least three times and of course x-rayed the baggage. What a tramp to climb the ramps to the ship?? Then it was a 1.5 hour sail to Calais. That meant going down the ramps and taking a bus to the next terminal. There a van met us to take us to pick up our lease car. We had no trouble getting the car but then it was a several hour drive to Honfleur.

But all said, Calais greeted us with blue skies and warm temperatures. Unfortunately, after getting our car and on the road the clouds moved in and the rains came.

We still got to enjoy the area between showers and especially to see the wooden church that Honfleur is famous for. It is a ship builders dream and it was built by the towns people who were ship builders!! It reminded me of the old wooden churches in Russia. Just magnificent!! The ceiling looks like two inverted ship’s hulls, with a main isle down the center of each. Robert will share pictures in his post.

The town is located on the left bank of the Seine right where the river joins the ocean. It is a little town that Monet loved and painted.

Now we are in Treviers, a little village, near Omaha Beach and one of the D-day landings and the American cemetery. Oh, and the feelings you get around here!! It is truly hallowed ground!!

We are here for 2 more full days—so lots more to come on Normandy.
