My reply to Cindi in the comments of my last post let you know that Chausette, the family dog on the property, ate the last two of our suspect sausages!! She loved them and could not stop licking her chops and wagging her tail. She runs up to greet Robert now—they are BFF!!
Our last bit of sight seeing in Normandy was a chateau not far from Treviers. It was built in the 11th century and was part of the Norman Conquest in 1066. During the Renaissance it was enlarged and “modernized”, so it became a part of WWII history as a German HQ. As always pics from Robert to come.
We left beautiful Normandy and drove to Bourges. It’s cathedral is an UNESCO building. It was huge and magnificent—again, Robert’s pics to follow. We also toured the palace in town. Both the cathedral and the palace were just minutes walk from our apartment.
Our little apartment was in a mansion built in the 1500’s right in the center of the old town. It is a very interesting place, to get to the parking in the courtyard we had to pull the mirrors in on the car and squeeze our way down along an alley. It was 2.2 m wide!! The building was recently purchased and renovated and changed into 10 apartments, furnished in antiques and quite comfy. Our bed (which had a brand new queen size mattress) was the best one so far this trip.
After a full day of sight seeing with gorgeous sunshine, we left the next morning for Sarlat-la-Caneda with rain all the way. Sarlat is in Aquitaine, which has the Dordogne River Valley within it, which has the Périgord (which is an ancient name for the area). The Périgord is divided into 4 sections as you will see below on my map. Sarlat is the seat of government for the Black Périgord. The regions were named with colors to indicate what they produced.
The sun is trying to come out and stay out today—fingers crossed—no rain yet—so we may get in some sight seeing today?
About the pictures—the first one is from Bayeux—the flag shows where the poppy shop is; the second is two of the treats from Annie in our welcome basket, the map of course and last but not least, the dissolvable TP roll?? I had never seen these before so I thought it an interesting idea?? Has anyone seen these yet or heard of them?? What about Scott or Kimberly Clark, Bob??
